WHAT was he thinking.
Designer Tommy Hilfiger is facing backlash after comments he made about Gigi Hadid and how she wasn’t thin enough to wear his clothes.
Let’s just remind ourselves, Gigi is a size 6 (EU).
Tommy recently admitted that he thought she was too small in height and not thin enough to walk the runway with his clothes on, but signed her up to be the face of the brand because of her huge social media following.
According to The Sun, Tommy was quizzed by stylist Joe Zee about why Gigi was wearing an oversized coat when she walked on the catwalk for the brand at New York Fashion Week in June.
He replied, “Our casting director said, ‘She doesn’t really fit because you know she’s not quite as tall as the other girls, she’s not quite as thin.
“They put a red, white and blue poncho on her. It covered a lot of her body unfortunately, but it received millions of hits.”
Naturally, people have been outraged by the comments and voiced their opinion on social media:
If Gigi Hadid is too short and fat to walk in the Tommy Hilfiger fashion show, can I be to short and fat to walk in the Tommy Hilfiger show?

After facing backlash online Tommy tried to retract his statement by saying:
“The casting people put Gigi in the poncho and I was not happy.
“I was saying, ‘Don’t hide her body.’ The suggestion that I thought she wasn’t thin enough upsets me to no end.”
