Instagram has been a source of contention for a lot of women with its recent decision to ban the female nipple – and the latest move is to censor the #Curvy.
When users started attempting to add the hashtag #Curvy, they found the word was off-limits… unless they wanted to use an alternative ‘curvyfashion’ or ‘curvywomen’.

It doesn’t really sound like a big deal – until the reasoning behind the block was revealed by a spokesman for the social media site:
“I can confirm that we did block the hashtag #curvy. It was being used to share content that violates our guidelines around nudity. Please note that the block has nothing to do with the term ‘curvy’ itself.”
The statement has caused anger amongst women for body-shaming, especially considering the hashtags #vaginas, #clitoris and #dildo are all accepted as tags on the site, as well as a series of derogatory insults against women.
The banned hashtag joins a host of restrictions being placed on predominantly female accounts, including banned images of breast feeding, stretch marks, domestic images of menstruation and classical art works that respectfully portray nude women.
