Cocaine Cargo Sent to Aldi… ‘By Mistake’

As your dad is probably fond of telling you, you can find just about anything in the ‘Weekly Specials’ at German supermarket chain Aldi. One Irish fella even wrote a pretty epic song about it.) That said, though, we can’t say we ever imagined cocaine landing in stores. But that’s exactly what has happened in Berlin, where police have found a whopping 140kg of the drug hidden in banana boxes sent to the supermarket. Valued at about €6 million, the cocaine was sent to five branches in the German capital after apparently arriving by sea to Hamburg. It is believed the crates originally came from Colombia. A police spokesperson has said that it’s likely smugglers made a “logistical error”, and the crates were sent to Aldi by mistake.
