Knowing what’s going on in the world on a daily basis comes with the territory of being a journalist. However these two reporters from Chicago TV station WGN need to brush up on their entertainment news.

News anchors Larry Potash and Robin Baumgarten broken off from their scheduled report on Channel 9 after they received word that a light aircraft had crashed on Martin Luther King Drive.

Immediately the TV station sent a news helicopter to the scene to film the “accident” as the reporters tried to piece together just what had happened and if anyone had been injured.

We can only imagine how mortified they must have been when the TV station received a message from the producers of drama series Chicago Fire stating that the “crash” was just a staged scene for an episode of the programme.

“We are just getting word that this is being shot as part of a TV show,” said Larry.

“Are you kidding me? They might want to tell the news folks that they’re doing this and shutting down King Drive!” Robin replied.

While other news stations contacted the emergency services to find out if it was a legitimate accident or not, Channel 9 failed to do so.

Hmm… we imagine they won’t be doing anymore ‘breaking’ news reports without checking everything in the future…
