This astronaut just revealed what space smells like… and it’s disgusting

Well, this is gross.

Scott Kelly is a pretty famous astronaut. In 2015, he set the record for the total accumulated number of days spent in space. He was up there for 350.4 days in total, which is the longest space mission by a US astronaut. And so, when he did a Q&A on Twitter, his fans had a lot of questions. One question in particular stood out to us - what does the space station smell like?

And well... it smells like garbage. He said: "It depends on where you are in the space station. Sometimes it smells like, you know, garbage... we keep the garbage up there for a long time until we get home. "The place doesn't smell bad though, you know some places are smellier than others but in general it's not bad. "Space has a distinct smell, like burning metal, like welding or those sparklers you use on a holiday." Pretty gross, though.
