10 Things… Her.ie Loved This Week

Things that made Team Her very happy this week.

Rebecca McKnight

Another Friday rolls around (A BANK HOLIDAY FRIDAY) and we’re taking a look back over the week that was. Our highlights this week include…

Oh What A Night!

Rebecca and Michelle attended the opening night of Jersey Boys at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre this week and they haven’t stopped humming since. For any fans of musical theatre this show is an absolute must-see… and they’d go so far as to say if you aren’t a fan, this might be the show to convert you. The audience were on their feet before the final bars. Exceptional!

Mum’s The Word

Cassie loved many things this week, among them reading the responses to our Slice of Ireland survey and scheming about future pieces for the site. She also loved meeting up with Amie Hynes Fitzpatrick and hearing her story for our very exciting new Her Say series. Cassie also LOVES that she got James Bay tickets and is fully convinced he will fall in love with her in October. Mostly, though, she loved the Internet’s reaction to her mother. To say she’s chuffed with herself is a severe understatement.

Girl Power

Mary was loving sense of girl power floating about Her Towers this week after the announcement that Michelle O’Neill was named as the first Irish female referee to officiate at a FIFA World Cup. O’Neill will travel to Canada for the tournament that will take place this summer and is only the second Irish referee to be bestowed with the honour following Eddie Foley who officiated at the France ’98 World Cup.

One for the Magpies

Sometimes you need to add a bit of sparkle to your life, and when Liz spied this phone case in New Look, she knew she had to have it. Being practical, she’s willing to argue it’ll make spotting a black phone in her bag so much easier. Loving all things glittery, she’s happy to admit it’s pretty and nicer to look at than a scratched off apple logo. Throw in the fact, it was on sale and it’s a bargain!

Getting Back With the Girls

One of the best things about Netflix is rediscovering shows that you already watched many moons ago and this week, Marie fell down the rabbit hole that is Gilmore Girls. This one definitely qualifies as a guilty pleasure but is completely and utterly addictive once you get involved in the lives of Lorelai and Rory and start crushing on Jess and Luke. If you haven’t watched it already, consider your weekend plans sorted.

Summer Nights

Cathy is dreaming of summer nights and festival style after heading along to the Boohoo.com summer preview this week. Denim, lace, suede, crochet, prints and patterns…it was a veritable fashion feast. Between the on trend looks and affordable prices, this is one collection she can’t get enough of. Also check those adorable heart sunglasses!

For All of Westeros…

Michelle was lucky enough to be a guest of Sky Atlantic at Dublin’s IFI this week for a very special advance screening of Game of Thrones season five, episode one. It’s been a LONG wait for Arya Stark, Jon Snow, Cersei Lannister and co to come back to our screens, but as a major fan Michelle is adamant that it’s worth the wait.

As if the screening wasn’t enough, our bro from JOE, Mr. Paddy McKenna hosted a Q&A after the session with a certain Ser Davos Seaworth – aka Liam Cunningham. We won’t give anything away, but he assured us there’s an explosive season in store.

A Class Act

Rebecca had the pleasure of chatting to Saoirse Ronan this week. The Atonement star launched the inaugural NPAS and Cinemagic Industry Film Academy for 12 to 18-year-olds as part of Cinemagic Dublin 2015. As well as that, she talked about the challenge of finding interesting film roles.

An Egg-cellent Day Out

We’re taking advantage of the long weekend with a couple of road trips, and Newbridge Silverware Showrooms and Museum of Style Icons is our first stop. As well as the full collection of jewellery, homeware, giftware and accessories from the iconic brand, we’ll be stopping for a bite at the award winning Silver Restaurant and checking out original garments worn by Grace Kelly and other stars of the silver screen can be viewed. If you’re a fan of legends like Audrey Hepburn, Princess Grace or Michael Jackson you’ll LOVE this exhibit. There’s also a new Modern Collection featuring pieces worn by Angelina Jolie and Victoria Beckham.

Tappa-tappa-tappa

This week, Liz was ridiculously excited to get her hands on some new character shoes. With rehearsals well underway for her musical, she decided it’s about time she broke in her new favourite wardrobe essential. What’s a few jazz hands without a shiny character shoe?

She just needs to remember to practice when her roommates are OUT of the house…
