This video is part of the Fat Experience Project, an oral and visual history project that focuses on the experiences of individuals who are overweight.
In this moving clip we hear from a woman called VJ talking about her childhood and the experiences she went through because of her size.
“VJ narrates a story from her childhood, explaining what she learned about life when her loving mother was forced, at risk of losing the public assistance she required, to send VJ away at 10 years old to an inpatient facility based on negative assumptions about her size.”
