At long, long last.
Scientists have discovered that one humble fruit could significantly reduce the effects of a hangover.
Australian scientists in the employ of CISRO, the country’s scientific research organisation found that pear juice increased concentration, reduced memory loss and sensitivity to light and sound and even managed to slightly decrease the alcohol levels in the blood.
The Telegraph reports that the research concentrated on the Asian pear, but other varieties will now be teated to see if the effects can be replicated.
The only catch? To benefit from the effect, you need to drink the juice (at least 22oml) before you start drinking.
Lead researcher Manny Noakes explained: “Overall hangover severity, as measured by a 14 item hangover severity scale, was significantly reduced in the Korean (Asian) pear group compared with those having a placebo drink, with the most pronounced effect seen on the specific symptom of ‘trouble concentrating'”.
