Pop singer Miley Cyrus reveals she suffered from an ovarian cyst rupture during a New Year’s Eve special she hosted.
During an interview on The Zane Lowe Interview, she speaks about the traumatic experience:
“I had a medical emergency. I had an ovarian cyst rupture, which we didn't know exactly what was going on, so we did it, but it was pretty traumatic, cause it was extremely excruciating.”
“And I did the show anyway, but it was really, really hard on me.”
Cyrus performed many hits that day, and despite appearing well, Cyrus said in the interview that this experience almost made her quit music.
The Cleveland Clinic describes them as “common growths that develop on or inside your ovaries.”
Ovarian cysts are commonly functional, forming in response to changes in the menstrual cycle.
But they can form for reasons unrelated to periods, though less commonly.
Some smaller cysts are asymptomatic; in those cases, you may not realise you have one.
Symptoms of larger ovarian cysts include:
A ruptured ovarian cyst is when these functional cysts “break open”. It can either cause no symptoms (more commonly), but it can also cause severe pain, dizziness, or weakness.
Treatment depends on symptoms, its kind, and cause.
