Although there's nothing to be ashamed about, having a skin condition like this can cause a lot of distress for patients.
It can knock your confidence, but it can also cause pain and leave many feeling irritable.
According to the HSE, rosacea is a long-term skin condition that mainly affects the skin on your face.
The main symptoms of rosacea include redness across your nose, forehead, chin, and cheeks that comes and goes.
Patients will also suffer from a burning or stinging feeling when using water or skincare products on their faces.
Other symptoms include dry skin, swelling around your eyes, and yellow-orange patches on your skin.
People with rosacea may also have sore eyelids or crusts around the roots of eyelashes, as well as thickened skin, mainly on their noses.
It tends to be more common in women, but the symptoms can often be worse in male patients.
The main cause is not known, but experts have noted multiple triggers.
The most common triggers patients should be aware of include caffeine, hot drinks, alcohol, spicy foods, and cheese.
Aerobic exercise like running can also trigger rosacea.
Rosacea is common but it also has similar symptoms to other conditions like acne, contact dermatitis, lupus, and keratosis pilaris.
There is sadly no cure for rosacea, but there are multiple treatments that can ease symptoms. They include prescription creams and gels, antibiotics, and intense pulsed light treatment.
There are also other ways to manage the condition like using sensitive skincare products, using SPF, and avoiding heat, sunlight or humid conditions.
