Drumshanbo launch new Gunpowder gin made with extremely rare citrus fruit

Let's be real. Since we went into lockdown last year, we all miss splashing out on fancy Gin and Tonics on nights out with the girls. Over the past few months, I've fancied myself a bit of a home barmaid, but for some reason my G&T's always fall a bit flat. No matter how hard I try, I never seem to be able to recreate the elaborate gin cocktails I used to so lovingly down on nights out in times gone by. However, when I gave the latest creation from Drumshanbo a bash, I grew hopeful once more. The Sardinian Citrus from PJ Rigney's Shed Distillery brings a distinct flavour to your average G&T, and it's easy to see why. The Leitrim company's new gin is distilled with citrus monstruosa, which happens to be the one of the rarest citrus fruits in the world. According to Drumshanbo, the fruit is an "unusual relative of the orange and the grapefruit". It can only be found on the Italian island of Sardinia. While the locals were the first to sample the new gin creation, Irish consumers can get their hands on a bottle of the Sardinian Citrus from off-licenses across the country. It comes at a good time too. While we're not sure when exactly we can jet off to exotic locations, Drumshanbo's latest innovation will bring a distinctly Mediterranean taste to our lockdown Gin and Tonics. The signature Sardinian Citrus serve is 40ml of gin and 140ml of chilled tonic water. A wedge of grapefruit works best to bring out the gin's distinct summery flavours. To ensure that your G&T packs a refreshing punch, serve it over a generous amount of cubed ice. That's our summer drinks sorted then.
