A new report from Public Health England has revealed that using e-cigarettes is not as harmful as smoking tobacco.
The new research has officially recognized that the effects of using e-cigarettes may not be as damaging as smoking, stating that at “the best estimate”, they are 95 per cent less harmful.
According to the BBC, the report recommends that e-cigarettes should be used in stop smoking services as they have the potential to help smokers to quit the habit for good.
Speaking about the findings, one of the report’s authors, Professor Ann McNeill stated: “If I was running a stop-smoking service, I would encourage people who are interested in trying e-cigarettes to have a go.”
Speaking about the findings, administrator of the Irish Vape Vendors Association Gillian Golden said: “The results could not be clearer.
“These products are a viable and far less harmful alternative for adult smokers.”
Dame Sally Davies however has cautioned that “there continues to be a lack of evidence on the long-term use of e-cigarettes” and should only be used as a means to kick the habit.
