This amazing breastmilk experiment is quickly becoming massively viral

We know breast milk is good - but this is amazing. First year bioscience student, Vicky Greene, decided to carry out her microbiology research project using breast milk and the findings have been shared over 25 thousand times. She studied the properties of milk based on a baby being fed at 15 months and a child being fed at three years old. This week she posted a photo of the petri dishes from the experiment and her findings are encouraging. In the caption, she explains how she was interested in seeing if the important properties in breastmilk remain after the first year or fall off:

"The first sample(BmA)is from a mother feeding a 15 month old and the second(BmB) is from a mother feeding a 3 year old. I'm also doing colostrum in a couple of weeks.  So proud...here you have 9 Petri dishes containing the bacteria M. Luteus. The white spots in the middle are discs soaked in two samples of breastmilk. See the clear bit around the discs- that's where the proteins in the milk have inhibited the bacteria! I'm so excited!!! It also worked with E. coli and had a fairly good go at MRSA too....the future is bright, the future is breastmilk"

Vicky now plans to test colostrum but it is good news for mums who choose to continue feeding their child themselves beyond the first year of their life.
