You can now get a reusable tampon applicator from Riley

A handy alternative to single-use tampons with applicators.

Riley, an Irish period product subscription service, has introduced a reusable tampon applicator, with the aim of reducing menstrual waste. Applicators can make it easier to insert tampons, but more often than not, they're plastic and single use. In a bid to reduce waste, Riley have released a reusable applicator that can be used alongside so-called naked tampons (tampons sold without an applicator). The reusable applicator is now available for pre-order on Riley's website, and it's sold with two Riley naked pouches and a canvas storage pouch. The applicator itself is BPA-free, Latex-free and Phthalate-free. Riley, a female-founded company, launched last year with the aim of offering period care that is made with the planet in mind. Commenting on the company's direction, co-founder Fiona Parfrey said: "First and foremost, we’re here to create high quality and healthier period care, but we believe it shouldn’t cost the earth. We’re in a climate crisis and we’re determined as a business to make more sustainable options accessible to menstruators. That’s why we’re constantly looking at ways that we can continue to make steps in the right direction for a more sustainable future.” According to their website, Riley's products are made without bleach, pesticides, toxins or harmful chemicals. What's more, the start-up is on a mission to "end period plastic", and cites sustainability as one of their core values. Additionally, Riley is partnered with Development Pamoja, an Irish registered charity in Kenya, which provides period products to students there. In Ireland, they've partnered with Positive Period Ireland, an NGO which collects donations of period products to be shared and distributed through front-line services. Through this partnership, Riley donates eco-friendly products to homeless outreach centres, Direct Provision Centres and women's refuges throughout the country.
