Simon Gregson is being temporarily “written out” of Coronation Street after coming down with a mystery illness.
According to reports this morning, show bosses aren’t expecting the actor back on set “any time soon.”
This will no doubt cause problems as his character Steve McDonald is involved in a number of ongoing storylines, including a major incident at the beginning of next year.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: “It’s a frightening time for him. He’s felt under the weather for a while, but it’s recently got worse.
“The most important thing is Simon’s health. He’s a great guy and gives everyone a lift on set. It’s a shock that he has had to pull out, especially when his character is so heavily involved in the storyline.”
Simon’s character is currently suffering from depression in a major storyline in the soap.
