REVIEW: Insurgent, An Incredibly Entertaining Sequel

It stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Miles Teller

Rebecca McKnight

Insurgent is the sequel to Divergent which is based on the book series written by Veronia Roth.

It picks up with Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) who are hiding out at the Amity camp after being blamed for an attack on Abnegation. It’s not long before Jeanine (Kate Winslet) sends out her people to find the divergent duo.

Throw in a box with a massive secret along with some serious family drama and you’ve got yourself an incredibly entertaining film which uses 3D, unlike a lot of other films, intelligently and effectively.

Having been a little disappointed in the first installment, Insurgent is a welcome sequel which grips the viewer from start to finish. Yes the plot is a little sketchy at times but overall it’s a well executed movie, filled with plenty of action and an extremely talented cast.

Shailene portrays the tormented heroine very well while Theo is a fantastic choice as her onscreen love interest but for us the star of the show is Miles Teller who plays Peter. He’s villainous but charming, a character everyone loves to hate, and one we can’t wait to see again.

The ending, as with the first film, sets up the next stage of the story perfectly although it is a tad drawn out. Still, after watching this one, we can’t wait to see the big finale.
