The Great British Bake Off, BBC 1, 8pm

The competition is heating up faster than the ovens are in this wildly popular baking show. Judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood task the remaining bakers with some difficult desserts tonight, including a signature challenge of a sponge with a surprise element. They’re also going topsy-turvy for tiramisu and old school with a baked Alaska.

If the acid-tongued presenter Joan Rivers and her panellists are to your liking, you’ll love tonight’s show. There is no shortage of material, following this week’s VMAs and Primetime Emmy Awards.

Due Date, RTÉ 1, 9.35 pm

Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis pair up for the Midweek Movie on RTÉ 1 tonight. Downey JR plays uptight architect Peter, who is desperate get home before his pregnant wife goes into labour, but manages to get himself banned from flying. Galifianakis plays an aspiring actor on his way to Hollywood, and a disastrous journey is born.
