‘Asking her father for permission… what century is this?’
Some people have been left surprised by one particular detail of Tom Holland‘s engagement to Zendaya.
Last week, it was reported that the celebrity couple, who have been in a relationship since 2021, were engaged to be married.
This was after the actress sparked engagement rumours when she was spotted wearing a diamond ring at this year’s Golden Globes.
Their engagement was later confirmed by Holland’s father, Dominic Holland. The comedian wrote in a blog post about how his son’s proposal had been rather different to how Dominic proposed to the actor’s mum Nikki.
In the post on his Patreon account, Dominic wrote: “Tom, as you know by now was very incredibly well prepared. He had purchased a ring.
“He had spoken with her father and gained permission to propose to his daughter.
“Tom had everything planned out… When, where, how, what to say, what to wear…
“I on the other hand was woefully ill-prepared, almost as though I wasn’t taking it seriously.”

Since the news of the engagement broke, fans have been sharing their happiness at one of the world’s most famous couples finally getting engaged.
But some have been shocked that the Spider-Man actor asked for permission to pop the question from Zendaya’s dad. They thought the practice was pretty old-fashioned, and wondered if it was still necessary in today’s modern world, Metro reports.
One person wrote: “This whole ‘permission to propose’ thing…isn’t Zendaya a grown woman?”
Another commented: “Gained permission? Is it 1600?”
A third said: “In the name of feminism, guys need to stop asking their girlfriend’s father’s ‘permission’ to propose, god.”
“Asking her father for permission… what century is this?” someone else exclaimed.
Holland and Zendaya met when they were working on Spiderman together but remained friends for years before they started dating.
Their relationship was exposed by paparazzi after images of them kissing were posted online.
Holland was reportedly devastated by the incident and said they wanted to keep their personal business private.
He previously told GQ: “One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn’t really in our control anymore and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world.
“I’ve always been really adamant to keep my private life private,” he added.
“I share so much of my life with the world anyway. We sort of felt robbed of our privacy.”
