The Glitterball trophy is back

Strictly Come Dancing has finally returned to our screens, and last night’s episode had everyone saying the same thing.

The show has returned for its 22nd series, with a new host of celebrities ready to boogie it out to get their hands on the coveted Glitterball.

This year’s lineup includes some huge names, including TV presenter Nick Knowles, JLS member JB Gill, Love Island star Tasha Ghouri and former footballer Paul Merson.

Other celebs taking on the fight for the trophy include presenter and podcaster Pete Wicks, Jamie Borthwick of Eastenders, Miranda actress Sarah Hadland and singer Shayne Ward.

However, just minutes into the first episode of the new season, fans all had the same thing to say – and it wasn’t even about the dancing.

“It’s officially almost Christmas,” one person wrote online.

A second put, accompanied by a picture of their TV: “Merry Christmas everyone!”

While a third penned: “STRICTLY IS BACK MUM GET THE QUALITY STREETS OUT ITS CHRISTMAS”

It comes after a drama-filled year for the iconic BBC show, which has seen oddmakers predict that this year’s series may be the last.

The show has come under fire after multiple former contestants spoke out about their experiences.

Graziano Di Prima and Giovanni Pernice were both axed from Strictly following multiple complaints made against them.

Pernice was let go from the show after allegations of misconduct were made by his former dance partner and actress Amanda Abbington.

In a lengthy interview with Channel 4, Abbington described Pernice’s behaviour in the rehearsal room as “unnecessary, abusive, cruel and mean”.

The Sherlock actress claimed she was left suffering from PTSD after pulling out of the show, and declared ‘I should never ever have danced with him’.

Reality star Zara McDermott accused 30-year-old Di Prima of kicking and hitting her during rehearsals.

In a statement posted to Instagram, the 27-year-old said: “Reports have been made about my treatment on the show and there were witnesses to some events, as well as videos of particular incidents which are incredibly distressing to watch.

“I have wrestled with the fear of opening up – I was scared about public backlash. I was scared about my future and victim-shaming.

“But after a lot of conversations with those I love, I’ve gained the strength to face these fears, and when I asked to speak to the BBC, I spoke candidly about my time on the show.”

Other contestants to speak out over issues they faced during their time on the show include presenter Laura Whitmore, as well as Paralympian Will Bayley.
