He also revealed what the movie would be about.

Call Me By Your Name will officially be getting a sequel.

The Oscar-nominated movie, starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hmamer, is based on the 2007 novel of the same name by André Aciman.

And while the film may not have won the Best Picture award at the Oscars on Sunday night, it did score a victory in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.

Director Luca Guadagnino has now admitted he’s already working on a follow up to the film with Aciman.

He added that he is hopeful both of the lead stars would return for the sequel.

He told USA Today:

“I’m already conceiving the story with [author] André Aciman.

“It’s gonna happen five or six years afterwards, so almost in the 1990s.”

“It’s gonna be a new movie, a different tone.

“You’re gonna see a lot of the East Coast of America… They’re gonna go around the world.”

There’s no filming date set – yet – as they still have to finalise the script before thinking of when filming would begin.

But the director gushed about filming the first movie, and how the cast became like a “huge family”.

He added:

“Apart from the fact that it rained for 28 days out of 30 of (shooting) — so it was very humid — we had a great time.

“It was wonderful, ’cause it was really like a family, a huge family being together for long holiday. It was great.”
