Bake Off fans were pretty surprised by this year's winner

The final saw Matty, Dan, and Josh go head-to-head, but it was P.E. teacher, Matty, who was crowned the winner.

As thrilled as the teacher was, some viewers were pretty surprised by the result.

Many even claimed that Josh should've been crowned the winner.

One said: "Josh was overall the better baker, no question, every day of the week. Comments were so harsh on him."

Another wrote: "Still wildly confused as to why Josh didn’t win."

One added: "Josh was better overall. Was certain Josh would win."

Matty didn't let the backlash take away from his success and thanked viewers for supporting him throughout the series.

"What an experience and what a journey! This is something that has taught me as much about myself as it has about baking.

"I can’t thank the bakers, the crew, and everyone involved in the process enough for making it so special. The friendships I’ve formed and the memories I’ve made throughout this have been amazing," he added.

Matty praised his Bake Off co-stars and said they inspired him throughout their journey.

"Dan, Josh, where to even begin?! 30 out of 30 bakes! You two are insane. Your baking ability is unquestionable and I’ve learned so much from you both. Thank you for the support and words of wisdom throughout, you’re such special people!" he wrote.
