The Michael Collins movie is getting a very special screening this year.
It’s been 20 years since Michael Collins was released in Irish cinemas. To mark this anniversary and the centenary of the 1916 Rising, it will be shown during the Audi Dublin International Film Festival.
The festival will host a screening of Neil Jordan’s Michael Collins, which will be attended by Neil and cinematographer Chris Menges and will be followed by an on-stage Q&A.
The celebration will also be attended by some of the 4000 extras who took part in the film. They are asking all extras to share their stories for a chance to take part in a reunion event on February 20th in Dublin.
You can share your story of your Michael Collins Extra experience by emailing [email protected]. They are encouraging people to include any images.
Speaking about why she selected the film, Festival Director Grainne Humphreys said:
“I’m thrilled to be able to programme Michael Collins in the Audi Dublin International Film Festival. Everyone remembers the excitement in Dublin when it was being filmed and so many people were part of it as extras.
“The resulting film was and is the great film of the period from Neil Jordan at the height of his filmmaking powers. I expect it will resonate with the festival audience just as beautifully as it did 20 years ago.”
