Warning issued to Irish holidaymakers heading to Spain this summer

We can't handle this kind of heat.

According to The Olive Press, a status yellow heat warning is in place across much of Spain as the country looks set to experience highs of up to 44C.

The caption reads: "Special notice due to heatwave. The most adverse days will be Thursday and Friday, except on the Mediterranean side, which will be Saturday.

"Locally, temperatures may exceed 44 ºC. The nights will be very warm. The heat is accompanied by haze."

Some relief can be found near the coast, with places like Barcelona, Valencia and Cadiz topping in the high twenties thanks to the ocean breeze presumably.

However, inland tourist hotspots like Sevilla, Cordoba and Zaragoza will experience temperatures between 38C and 42C.

The extreme heat is set to land today and last until July 25, with 11 provinces are already on alert for dangerous conditions.

Carlow Weather on X told followers: "Heading away to Spain in the next few days for some heat? Well you could get more than you want.

"Prepare for some hot weather, up to 40c by Thursday and could get up to 43c early next weekend!"

People in Spain are being urged to stay indoors during midday hours to avoid the most intense heat.

Those heading to the south and east of the peninsula and Balearic Islands have also been cautioned over unusually hot conditions in the coming days as temperatures could get closer to 50C rather than 40C in parts. 

The Balearic Islands include holiday hotspots like Mallorca, Ibiza, and Formentera.

Weather experts do not rule out record-breaking temperatures, with many areas in the south and centre of the country expected to near 45C on Friday.

Some places will experience a slight drop on Saturday and Sunday, before temperatures shoot back up again on Monday.

Those kind of temperatures are no joke, so be careful and protect yourself from the Sun if you're Spain-bound in the coming days.
