Inspiring teenager Stephen Sutton has been awarded a MBE in recognition of fundraising efforts made prior to his death.
The 19-year-old touched hearts across the world with his dedication to fund-raising as he battled terminal cancer, raising over £3million for The Teenage Cancer Trust charity before his death. Stephen kept followers updated on his journey through a blog before he passed away in May.
Sutton was this week awarded a CBE for his efforts as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours and his mother Jane revealed that her son was asked shortly before he died whether he would accept the MBE and thought it was “awesome”.
Irish actor Daniel Day-Lewis was also recognised in the list, receiving a Knighthood for “services to drama”.
”I’m entirely amazed and utterly delighted in equal measure,” he said.
