Miley Cyrus has revealed the heartbreaking way she tried to save her marriage to Liam Hemsworth.
In an interview with Every Single Album, Cyrus spoke about all of her albums, her life, and her relationship with The Hunger Games actor.
Cyrus met the Australian actor on the set of The Last Song in 2009.
“That’s where I met Liam, whom I would go on to marry and write a ton of, or most of, my songs about.”
They had an on-and-off relationship for three years, and in 2012, Hemsworth proposed to Cyrus, which was later called off in 2013.
Cyrus explained that their relationship went through a rough patch during her Bangerz era.
"Me and Liam split up the first time with Bangerz because I was this provocateur, like, highly sexualised.”
In 2013, Cyrus released the infamous Wrecking Ball song, which caused lots of controversy. Fans were shocked because she had shed her Disney image, but she was moving on in her career.
Cyrus ended up marrying Hemsworth in 2018, but she felt like she had to change to make their relationship work.
The Malibu singer revealed that one of her later albums, Younger Now, released in 2017, she “played into this innocence” to save her marriage:
"For Younger Now, the reason I kind of played into this innocence was because I think it was a way to keep - a way to stay,"
"By being younger now and a less sexualized woman publicly, and this was a way to keep a happy home.”
Hemsworth filed for divorce from the Wrecking Ball singer in August 2019. By the turn of 2020, the divorce was made official.
Miley went on to date Australian singer Cody Simpson for just short of a year from mid-2019 to mid-2020.
Hemsworth has been in a relationship with Gabriella Brooks since late 2019.
