It’s hard to believe sometimes that those widely successful and beautiful people we know and love as celebrities were once regular mortals.
Alas, of course, they once had to walk amongst us muggles, through school halls and city streets.
Reddit users have taken to this thread to reveal what our favourites were like before the bright lights shone above them.
Sadly, it seems not all were as charismatic as they are today.
John Travolta is described as being annoying and was told he wouldn’t make it anywhere in life according to poster sidimazz.
Matthew McConaughey is a gentleman. One commenter writes that her mother’s best friend taught the A-lister.
“She said he was one of her favourite students because he was so sweet. Apparently he came to see her and talk to her class when he first started acting. Seems pretty cool,” she writes.
Mariah Carey was a cosmetology student but according to commenter Bugjones, had no interest.
“Mariah was a bit of a diva, and was not terribly interested in learning the trade of hair and makeup. Wanted to sing instead. I guess that worked out,” she says.
Another commenter reveals that her mother studied in the same High School as Mariah and that she was always a diva.
“My mom said she went to high school with Mariah. She told me that Mariah was two years older and was actually a bully (no surprise). She was a total diva. My mom found out that Mariah would get up really early for school to get ready. She said she would take a needle to her eyelashes so each one was straight and perfect,” writes Hunny_Bunny20.
Another poster reveals that Kanye West is just a giant softy.
“My mom taught Kanye West’s Music Theory class in high school. She said he insisted he would one day be a famous rapper, and that he was a decent student but sometimes a bit stubborn. Overall not that noticeable, although he did like freestyling. He and some other students threw a little baby shower for my mom while she was pregnant with my sister, which is nice,” he writes.
Finally, it seems Bill Murray was the biggest badass of them all.
“Bill Murray went to my high school way before me but there is a story that I would like to believe is real, that he got the record for most amount of detentions (called jugs) for someone who graduated from the school and when a kid broke it years later he took him out to lunch” writes LaSerpant.
