Proof That The Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon Theory Is Not A Myth!

After almost 25 years together, you’d think Kevin Bacon and his wife Kyra Sedgwick would have seen if the ‘six degrees of Kevin Bacon’ theory applied to them, but it seems the actor waited until he was appearing in the US show Finding Your Roots to find out, and was shocked by the results.

When looking into his family tree, host Henry Gates Jr, the Harvard professor of African-American history, revealed that DNA evidence shows Kev and his missus are actually cousins!

The ‘six degrees’ concept states that any two people on Earth are, on average, about six acquaintances apart. The ‘six degrees of Kevin Bacon’ theory was coined by Hollywood movie buffs who claim that nearly every actor in Hollywood will either have worked with the star, or worked with someone who has worked with him during his 25 year career.

The Hollywood couple are family in more ways than one!

Kevin and Kyra have been married since 1988, and have two children together but can now add ninth cousins, once removed, to the list of ways they are intertwined. 

The programme, which airs on PBS America in the U.K. for the first time this week, also reveals that both their families are significantly linked to key moments in American history, including the Declaration of Independence and the battle to abolish slavery.
