Meghan Markle has adopted a feature of Princess Diana’s signature style.

The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry were in New York for World Mental Health Day as they hosted the Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit.

For the event Meghan decided to go for a casual look that seemed to pay tribute to her mother-in-law Diana, wearing a varsity jacket as she posed for pictures with students at The Marcy Lab School.

Diana was photographed on multiple occasions throughout the 80s and 90s sporting a green Philadelphia Eagles jacket of a very similar style to the one the Duchess could be seen wearing.

Diana was gifted her custom-made jacket by Jack Edelstein, a statistician and spotter for the Eagles radio network whom she met at the 1982 funeral of Grace Kelly.

After receiving the gift, she sent Jack “a very nice note” about “how she’d been wearing it around”.

Jack later recalled to The Philadelphia Inquirer that during the Monaco funeral, the princess told him that she thought “football was like soccer,” and she asked, “What are your colours?”

“I told her, ‘green and silver,’ he recounted, She said: “Those are my favourite colours”.

Meghan’s jacket also had a sweet story behind it as journalist Omid Scobie explained in a tweet, “Meghan’s varsity letterman jacket was given to her by the debate team at the Robert Clack School in Essex, England during her March 2020 visit.”

Royal fans couldn’t help but to think back to the royal’s Netflix docuseries when Harry spoke about how his wife reminded him of his late mother.

“She has the same compassion, the same empathy, she has the same confidence, she has this warmth about her,” he said of his wife.
