James McAvoy brought an entire performance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth to a grounding halt when he lashed out at a member of the audience and asked them to put their phone away. The normally placid McAvoy was enraged and distracted by a gentleman who was filming the scene.

McAvoy is currently in a contemporary production of Shakespeare’s famous play at London’s Trafalgar Studios. According to a Entertainmentwise, McAvoy refused to continue with the performance until the phone had been put away.

A statement released by the studios confirmed: “An audience member was caught filming by the actor James McAvoy, The filming disrupted the production of Macbeth, forcing James McAvoy to respond to audience member by asking them to stop filming immediately. The production then continued as planned once the camera was put away.”

McAvoy confirmed he was excited about the project and has been taking the affair very seriously: ‘It will be interesting when Sir Ian McKellen and Patrick and I are all working on X-Men. We might have a Macbeth-off. I might just go, “My Macbeth’s better than your Macbeth… And your Macbeth: hmm, not so sure.”’

The current production is a sell-out with over 80 dates so if you are attending, just leave the phone at home maybe…
