Actress Lily Collins and her husband Charlie McDowell have been met with waves of backlash following the birth of their first child.
Last week, the Emily in Paris announced the birth of their baby girl on Instagram.
The actress revealed their daughter was born via surrogacy.
Alongside a photo of their newborn, Lily wrote: "Welcome to the center of our world Tove Jane McDowell. Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again…"
Most of the Love, Rosie star's followers sent loving messages to her but many trolls targeted the new mum for opting to use a surrogate.
Many slated Lily and Charlie for 'buying' their daughter and others said surrogacy should not be normalised.
Charlie quickly shut down the cruel trolling and said people have no idea about their path to parenthood.
He wrote: "In regards to the unkind messages about surrogacy and our path to having a baby - it's okay to not be an expert on surrogacy.
"It's okay to not know why someone might need a surrogate to have a child. It's okay to not know the motivations of a surrogate regardless of what you assume," he added.
The new dad stressed: "And it's okay to spend less time spewing hateful words into the world, especially in regards to a beautiful baby girl who has brought a lot of love to people's lives."
Lily Collins doesn't owe an explanation to anyone especially those targeting her with visceral abuse online during what should be one of the happiest moments of her life.
Not every woman can carry her own child and the last thing we need is to tear someone down because she chose surrogacy.
We do not know what fertility Lily Collins may have faced before she chose surrogacy. Sometimes it is the only option for women, whether they're famous actresses or not.
Everyone should stop having a go at Lily Collins for using a surrogate- it’s entirely her choice and at least she’s been honest about her past struggles ie with anorexia etc.
