Liam Payne tragically died in October 2024

Liam Payne’s sister Ruth has shared an emotional tribute to her brother about his upcoming Netflix series, Building the Band.

The trailer for the Netflix show was released yesterday, which, according to The Sun, was after Payne’s family permitted the series to go ahead.

Building The Band was filmed months before Payne died at age 31 in October 2024.

Liam Payne’s older sister, Ruth, posted to Instagram upon the trailer release, sharing how proud she is of him.

In the emotional tribute, Ruth said:

“I didn’t know whether to share this, but it felt weird when I’ve raved about Liam’s work and achievements for the last 15 years.

“I’m heartbroken he never got to see how great he is in this show.

“He knew he had done a good job, we all told him this when we were at filming, but watching it back, wow!

“You’re a star Liam, you always were and always will be.

“There are a range of emotions I felt watching this, but one of the main ones is immeasurable pride, always.

“Miss you more every day.”

Building The Band brings talented singers together to form bands from singers who haven’t met before

The show was announced back in September, before Liam’s death at just 31 years of age on October 16th.

The singer tragically died after falling from a third-story balcony in Buenos Aires.

It has been confirmed that Nicole Scherzinger is a judge and mentor, while Payne appears as a guest judge in the show.

Building The Band was one of the last projects the former One Direction star worked on, along with the song Do No Wrong with Sam Pounds.

Pounds opted to delay the release of Do No Wrong, and said he wanted Payne’s “family to mourn in peace and in prayer.”

Episodes of ‘Behind The Band’ will be released weekly on Netflix from July 9th to July 23rd. 2025
