Just give us the final season of Girls already.
Lena Dunham, creator, writer and sometime director of the hit HBO show Girls has quickly been garnering a name for herself as a body positive warrior online.
She constantly posts photos of herself on her various social media platforms and receives a lot of criticism for doing so.
Fans of her TV show will know that she is no stranger to nude scenes- the genius in her portrayal of Hannah Horvath, the shows main protagonist, lays in the fact that she is so gritty and uninhibited.
So it really comes as no surprise then, that Lena and her co star (and real life best pal) Jemima Kirke are the new brand ambassadors of a New Zealand based lingerie company called ‘Lonely’ who try to empower women through underwear.
As you can see, these images are completely photo shop free, Lena and Jemima are able to express themselves, warts and all.
The idea behind the lingerie brand is that women should wear underwear as a love letter to themselves. Too often women are advertised lingerie from the unattainable, highly sexualised bodies of 16 -year-old models. It often leads us to thinking, who exactly are they for?
The idea behind the Lonely project according to the creators, was female liberation.
“Instead of being objectified, the women who participate in this journal series-in this case, Lena and Jemima-are empowered and exhibit real beauty that will hopefully help women everywhere feel a little more liberated”
The duo were photographed by Zara Mirkin and Harry Were in New York City in a very girls eque patishe. And we are just loving how relaxed and comfortable these women are in their own skin.
