Sophie Collins

If you have in the past or are currently struggling with adult acne, then you know how hard it can be!

Laura Fox has spoken about her ongoing battle with cystic acne, which she says has deeply impacted her self-confidence.

The radio presenter said first began experiencing severe skin issues at the age of 28, a condition she has worked tirelessly to manage.

Laura recently shared her journey, revealing how adult acne transformed not only her skin but also her sense of self.

“The impact it had on my confidence was just next level,” she told the Irish Mirror, describing the painful cyst-like boils that appeared from her cheekbone to her chin.

After years of dealing with acne, Laura finally got help from dermatologists, having said the physical pain caused by cystic acne was “the sorest thing ever.”

While managing the acne on her face, another problem area emerged – her back.

Laura recounted how breakouts on her back, a condition she has dealt with since her teenage years, added to her struggles.

“I’d go on holidays, have a great time, then come in from the pool and see my back.

“I would just burst out crying,” she shared.

The spots were so severe they caused discomfort under her clothing.

This year, she began using a medication called Oratane, which helped improve her condition, but she said it’s not without side effects.

“Your skin dries up. My arms and the top of my back go incredibly dry,” Laura explained, adding that she has to carefully choose skincare and beauty products to avoid irritation.

Now 34, Laura reflects on how her approach to beauty and confidence has evolved over time.

“I’ve really grown into myself. I don’t rely on other people’s opinions of me anymore. I can only control what I think,” she said.

Despite the challenges, she is staying optimistic and committed to taking care of her skin, not just for her upcoming wedding in two years but as part of her long-term wellness.
