Kate Middleton celebrated Prince George's birthday this month

It's been a difficult year for the royals following Kate's cancer diagnosis but the family gathered to mark his special day over the weekend.

Kate made sure to follow a special tradition by sharing a birthday portrait of Prince George.

The beautiful black and white photo was posted on their official Instagram account.

Alongside the photo, Kate confirmed she took the photo of her eldest son.

Kate has always shared personal photos to mark her children's birthdays. The photographer has often shared the snaps with their millions of followers for special events including Father's Day, Christmas, and Mother's Day.

Sources close to the Princess of Wales confirmed she would step back from public life again this summer.

She attended Wimbledon and Trooping the Colour, but is due to spend the rest of the summer with her family in Norfolk.

Kate, William, and their three children will spend time at Anmer Hall in Norfolk for the summer holidays.

A source told People, "She won’t have to be on centre stage. Being with her family and just being herself will give her energy. There will be plenty of time to focus on her recovery."
