Rain… you would think that at this stage we might be used to it but unfortunately we’re not.We know that there are major consequences and damage caused by storms like these, but we just want to take a moment to think about the MILDLY annoying things we shouldn’t complain about… but want to.Â
How we’re meant to dress for that is anybody’s guess! With that in mind, here are a few of the things that drive us around the bend when the rain starts
Wet Socks
No matter how sturdy your footwear, socks always seem to get drenched. That might be okay if you work near a shop and you can quickly change into a new and more importantly, dry pair. Alas, if you don’t a cold is practically guaranteed and we all know how much fun it is to have the sniffles…
Umbrellas
These pesky gadgets are meant to protect us from rain which is perfectly grand when it’s just showers they have to deal with. However, this is Ireland, home of unpredictable weather. Wind nearly always shows up to accompany rain and when that happens, you might as well forget it. An inside-out umbrella is no use to anyone and you tend to look like a madwoman wrestling with it on the side of the street.
Windscreen Wipers
Driving requires concentration at all times and foggy windows due to condensation are not appreciated. Turning on the wipers is meant to help but the rhythmic noise and monotonous action can be very distracting. Added to the fact you can barely see in front of you due to the torrential downpour… Mother Nature you have a lot to answer for!
Sweaty Betty
We might be able to cope better if it was just rain but as mentioned above, in Ireland we get a lot of humid heavy weather in between showers. You might be rushing to a meeting or to collect the kids from school or simply trying to look half presentable… once the humidity gets you forget about hat. Beads of perspiration, runny foundation and sweat patches… did we mention how much we love the rain?!
Traffic
Gridlock poses a problem on a daily basis but it does seem to get worse whenever the rain sets in. Stuck in traffic is enough to put anyone in a bad mood, vehicles end up rushing because they’re late… pedestrians watch out for the flying puddles of water that may come your way. There are no available parking spaces and road rage reaches new levels during rainy periods…not cool.
Bad Hair Days
Days such as these are not just confined to when it’s raining but water has a lovely way of making your frizz even more than usual. There is nothing worse than going to the effort of tackling the hairdryer when you step outside to have it ruined in a matter of minutes. This actually has the power to run your mood for the entire day, mix the humidity in there too and hello Monica Gellar!
What To Wear
Possibly one of the most annoying things about the rain in Ireland is deciding what to wear, you would think boots and a rain jacket would be sufficient but things are a little more complicated. It might be raining when you wake up, then by lunchtime the sun is shining and all is right with the world. Or it might be if you weren’t wearing your warmest knit and sturdiest boots. Nothing to do but sit (sweat) it out for the evening…
