Holly Willoughby considering a move abroad after ‘year from hell’

Jody Coffey

Holly Willoughby is reportedly considering ‘quitting the UK’.

This comes just weeks after she stepped down from her presenting role on This Morning following an alleged kidnapping plot.

A 36-year-old man was arrested and charged when police discovered the plot to ‘kidnap and murder’ her.

Now, the 42-year-old is contemplating washing her hands of the UK and jetting off with her family after a ‘year from hell’.

Speaking to Closer, a source revealed that the former This Morning presenter has ‘always liked the idea of going abroad for a while’.

This, they added, is not something Holly is considering with a career focus, but rather to give her children a new experience away from the UK.

“With everything that has happened recently, she has told pals it may be the perfect time to do it – and make the jump after years of having it swirling around in the back of her head as a distant dream.

“She’s felt like a bit of a recluse in London, feeling like a prisoner in her own home. She’s hated losing her freedom,” the source continued.

They also believe that America would be the perfect destination for Holly and her family to ‘escape’ their current situation.

This year has undeniably been a tough one for the mum-of-three, with her former co-host and close friend, Phillip Schofield, 61, admitting to an ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a younger colleague, which subsequently saw him quit the show they presented together in May.

Phillip’s statement at the time read:

“I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story. Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

“So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers.”

Less than six months later, Holly was placed on ‘indefinite’ leave by This Morning following the alleged plot to ‘kidnap and murder’ her, and later announced her shock departure from the show.

“To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so much. This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together. Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you,” she wrote.

“Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You’ve been so loyal, so supportive and the very best company every day… It’s been an honour to be part it’s story and I know this story has many chapters left to go. Sadly however, I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family.”
