When Adele used a flip phone in her recent video for Hello, we were all surprised to see what we all thought of as an ancient piece of technology make an appearance.
It looks like flip phones are making a comeback, with manufacturing giant Samsung working on a new model according to industry insiders Sammobile. It’s going to be called SM-W2016, and will come with two displays and a KEYPAD. That’s right, the phone will have buttons.
If you think this means that the phone will only have the memory for about ten texts and no front camera you’re wrong. This is no Motorola Razr and it will actually rival most smartphones on the current market.
A lot of people still miss a button keypad interface on their phones, especially former Blackberry users, so this is sure to be a hit with them.

When Xavier Dolan was asked about why he used a flip phone in Adele’s video he told the Los Angeles Times: ‘They’re so implanted in our lives that when you see them in movies you’re reminded you’re in reality. If you see an iPhone or a Toyota in a movie, they’re anti-narrative, they take you out of the story […] It feels like I’m making a commercial.’
There really was nothing more satisfying than snapping your flip phone closed, so we definitely can see why there’s a resurgence of nostalgia happening right now.
