A woman in America is suing Ellen DeGeneres all because of her name.
Ellen was doing a segment on her show called, ‘What’s Wong With These Ads… and These Signs?’, when she used a woman’s advert as an example.
The woman is called Titi Pierce and is accusing Ellen of saying her name in a ‘derogatory way’. Titi is apparently supposed to be pronounced ‘tee tee’, but instead Ellen referred to her as ‘Titty’.
Ms Pierce says that in all her 35 years no one has ever referred to her by that name and only ever called her by the correct pronunciation.
The Independent has shared a link to Ms Pierce’s case file which documents the lawsuit and her reasons for filing it.
She is suing Ellen for saying it the wrong way and also failing to hide her phone number while the advert was on screen. Titi says that she was inundated with phone calls and abusive texts and voice messages which continued through the night after the segment was shown on TV.
Not only is she claiming it caused her distress when it first aired in February, but it was also aired again in April which brought a new wave of abusive phone calls. She said that even though she contacted the show, they still aired the segment a second time.
Ms Pierce is seeking damages from Warner Bros, the company behind Ellen’s show, and never wants the segment to be aired again.
