The presenter confirmed that he will host his last breakfast show on Friday, July 5th. News of his exit comes just weeks after Doireann Garrihy decided to leave the same show.
Speaking about his exit, Donncha said: "I’m so incredibly grateful and proud of the last five years in 2FM, I’ve absolutely loved it."
He praised the breakfast show listeners for being so supportive during his time on the show, describing them as "the absolute best".
"We all have a reason for bouncing out of bed and taking on the day. I’ve been blessed yet again to do something I’ve loved for the last five years. Of course, it requires sacrifice and commitment, in my case that load has been carried by Jenny. Thank you for always backing me," he added.
Donncha explained that he is moving on to a new stage of his career, but will continue working on Ireland's Fittest Family.
He also teased multiple other projects including a possible book.
"It is now time to focus on winning Ireland’s Fittest Family, to continue working on all my exciting rugby projects, and something else that is a complete “Disaster”."
Fans of Donncha showered the comment section with supportive messages following his major announcement.
Fellow 2FM star Carl Mullan paid tribute to his co-host: "I still can’t believe I got to have a laugh on the radio with the fella who used to make me scream at the TV for giving away penalties. You are the definition of an unbelievable team mate Donners. And Jesus we had some laugh boy."
Doireann Garrihy added: "I read “I’ve absolutely loved it” as “I’ve absolutely nailed it”. I know both to be true! One in a million Donners. Take a bow."
RTÉ has not confirmed who will replace Donncha as of yet.
