Doireann Garrihy opens up about the early days of her pregnancy

Doireann Garrihy is pregnant with her first child

The mum-to-be and her husband Mark Mehigan confirmed they were expecting their first child together last week.

The parents-to-be shared a sweet photo of them holding their sonogram to announce the news.

Alongside the photo, Doireann wrote: "We are beside ourselves with joy. Here’s to the greatest chapter yet."

The mum-to-be opened up about her pregnancy on her 2FM radio show this week.

She admitted that it has been incredibly tough keeping the news to herself.

She told her co-hosts Hugh Carr and Taran O'Sullivan: "Obviously I’ve been keeping a secret from you for the past few weeks."

"I wanted to just blurt it out so bad and say, ‘I am nauseous yet again, is there anymore crackers around, is there anything to be said for a few cream crackers'."

"It’s mad really because I am allergic to crackers now. Like I would have been a four coffees a day person and just like that I’m allergic to coffee, the smell of it, everything, tea as well, ew, just gone.”

She continued: "And also my favourite thing in the world was eggs, but ugh, I can’t eat eggs now."

Doireann said she's feeling good at this stage of her pregnancy.

"Weeks 6-11 were the toughest, tiredness and constant nausea. I was way worse in the evenings than mornings; no idea why that was! A tip from my doctor was to have cream crackers first thing in the morning (or any type of dry food before anything wet/fluids.)

"That definitely helped," the mum-to-be admitted.

The Irish radio presenter married comedian Mark Mehigan in a beautiful ceremony at the K Club on November 30th.
