Christopher Maloney, the controversial finalist for X-Factor 2012, has revealed that not only is he gay, but in a long term relationship with his partner. The singer admitted that he didn’t want to hide his sexual orientation, but didn’t think it would be appropriate during the show.
Maloney spoke to Now magazine in his only reveal-all interview since the show and commented: “Do you know what, I'm going to admit it – yeah. Honestly, I've never denied it or anything like that. It's just that with the show it was always an inappropriate time or people just asked inappropriate questions.”
The Liverpudlian was a constant source of controversy on the show, the press had claimed that Maloney was voting for himself to remain in the competition while there were reports that he didn’t always get on with his fellow contestants.
Eventually losing out to finalists Jahmene and winner James Arthur, Maloney dedicated most of his performances to his doting Nan. However, the singer eventually ended up calling police in to deal with violent threats towards himself and his grandmother.
The singer told Digital Spy: “I'm one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, but there has to be a bad guy," he said. "It was pretty awful and I'm still trying to get myself back on my feet. To be honest, the amount of crap I've had since the start has been absolutely unbelievable, but I try to take it on the chin."
