Britney’s father seeking $2 million pay out from conservatorship

The singer's legal team have claimed Jamie Spears is trying to extort his daughter.

Britney Spears' legal team have claimed that Jamie Spears is seeking $2 million in payouts before withdrawing from his role in the conservatorship. In a court filing, the singer's attorney Matthew Rosengart accused Jamie Spears of trying to extort Britney by scheduling the accounting of the conservatorship before agreeing to step down. The document reads: "Britney Spears will not be extorted. Mr Spears's blatant attempt to barter suspension and removal in exchange for approximately $2 million in payments, on top of millions already reaped from Ms Spears' estate by Mr Spears and his associates, is a non-starter." It later reads: "The only question before the court - which has, unfortunately been lost for years - is whether Mr Spears' prompt suspension and removal are in the best interests of Britney Spears (....) the unequivocal answer is yes." Jamie Spears was appointed as one of Britney's conservators in 2008, however, he temporarily stepped down from his role due to health concerns in 2019. Britney herself has made it clear that not only does she want him removed permanently, but that she wants the conservatorship to be ended entirely. Mr Spears, meanwhile, has said that he had been planning on stepping down anyway. However, he gave no indication as to the timeline of his withdrawal and said that he would only leave after lingering, accounting issues were resolved. Britney's legal team's petition to have him removed from his role will be addressed in court on 29 September. In the past, Britney has made her objections to the ongoing conservatorship very clear. Earlier this summer, she addressed the court directly for the first time and spoke about the impact it has had on her. The singer said: "I truly believe that this conservatorship is abusive. My request is to end the conservatorship without being evaluated like before."
