Stephanie Davis has finally broken her silence over her axing from Hollyoaks, admitting she was drinking too much and felt under constant pressure from the show’s schedule.
Speaking to The Mirror, Davis admitted she began drinking as she struggled to keep up with the hectic filming schedule for the Channel 4 soap:
“I will hold my hands up and admit I’ve been drinking too much. I’ve been struggling for a while and booze was an escape for me.
“I usually worked six days a week. My only day off was a Thursday but I went out most Friday and Saturdays.”
The soap star added:
“Typically I’d share a bottle of prosecco with my friends, then I’d move on to vodka, lime and lemonades. I’d end the night with a few shots of tequila.”
Despite her shock admission, the 22-year old denies she turned up on set drunk:
“I had my make-up done then I just said to one of my castmates, I can’t do this. I said I was going to go home. People tried to stop me and warn me about the consequences. But I said, ‘I don’t care’. I just wasn’t thinking straight.
“I want to apologise to the show for how I handled the situation. I was absolutely exhausted. Something just clicked inside me and I thought, ‘I can’t do this any more’. I think because I played Sinead 24/7, the only time I’d be me is when I was getting into bed.”
The actress’ contract was terminated “with immediate effect” last week.
Stephanie’s representative released a statement last week about why her one-year contract had been terminated just four months after being signed.
It read: “Stephanie’s contract was terminated following warnings for lateness, attendance and after a final incident in which she turned up to set unfit to work because of alcohol consumption.”
