“Your legacy will live on forever.”

Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late Steve Irwin, has paid tribute to her father in an emotional post on Instagram.

In the post, Bindi expressed how much the world had lost when it lost her dad, who was also known as The Crocodile Dundee.

“Your legacy will live on forever,” she said.

“I love you for even longer.”

She also shared a photograph of herself as a young child with her father to mark Steve Irwin Day, which is held annually on 15 September to honour his life and legacy.

Bindi’s post was flooded with tributes to her dad.

“He would’ve been so proud of how you’ve become and what a good mother you are,” one person wrote.

“If not for your father I may never have gained such an appreciation and love for our beautiful natural world. Steve is the reason I’m a wildlife warrior,” another added.

Steve’s Australia Zoo on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is marking the day with celebrations and special activities.

Wildlife Warriors, a non-profit organisation set up by Steve and his wife Terri that supports the protection of injured, threatened or endangered wildlife, also shared some heartfelt words on social media.

“Today, we are celebrating Steve Irwin Day by honouring the most extraordinary Wildlife Warrior that ever lived,” it wrote.

“Steve’s passion and enthusiasm to conserve wildlife inspired countless others, people just like you, to fight for the protection of wildlife and wild places.

“Join us as we come together and continue Steve’s important conservation work by educating and connecting people with wildlife, in the hope that one day humans and wildlife will live harmoniously alongside each other.

We’re all #WildlifeWarriors, and we are proudly wearing our khakis today.”

Steven sadly passed away in in September 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb while filming a wildlife documentary.
