Barry Keoghan says he doesn’t have ‘normal relationship’ with son Brando

Barry Keoghan has opened up about fatherhood

The Saltburn actor welcomed his son Brando with his ex-girlfriend Alyson Kierans in August 2022.

The pair sadly broke up shortly after their son was born, but Barry remains in Brando's life despite his hectic work schedule.

Speaking about his son, the actor admitted they don't have a typical father-son relationship.

He told Entertainment Weekly, "I’ll just say this — I didn’t have a father figure growing up, so even my relationship with my son isn’t quite of the normal father-son relationship."

He explained that he didn't have a real-life experience to draw from when filming the movie Bird.

Keoghan plays a single father to a 12-year-old girl in the drama.

"I don’t have that figure to draw experience from and to base it on," Keoghan explained.

He added, "Love, you don't need anything to draw from, love is pure, and so I'm not on about that, but I'm on about little stuff like teaching your son this or teaching your daughter that."

"Going into this, I didn't have that [normal experience], so it's a very brother-sister kind of chemistry going on [for Bug and Bailey], which I felt was right for it," Keoghan said.

Barry announced the arrival of his son Brando on Instagram in August 2022.

Alongside a sweet photo of his newborn, Barry wrote, “Welcome to the pack my boy B R A N D O."
