Dermatologists are saying to avoid lash serums

We all love to have long lashes, but sometimes mascara just doesn't have the effect we strive for

Many dermatologists have warned people about certain ingredients in lash serums that can cause potential damage.

According to Dr. Abby Waldman, many of the popular lash serums on the market contain the ingredient prostaglandin.

Prostaglandins are produced by the body, and are a hormone-like substance that help to repair the body.

While prostaglandins do promote the growth phase of eyelashes, they can have some negative side effects on our eyes.

"In some people [it] can cause redness, it can actually cause orbital fat loss and even change the colour of your eyes," Waldman says.

The orbital fat loss under the eyes can lead to sunken and hollow looking eyes. It can also lead to dark circles that are difficult to get rid of.

The same effect may happen to your irises and cause darkening.

"You really have to learn how to read the ingredients list, which makes it really hard to avoid them if you want to avoid them," she says.

Waldman recommends taking note of the ingredient and being aware of what kind of product it is. While this can be time consuming, it could save you from suffering later on.

Also, it should be noted that not everyone experiences these side effects. However, you know your skin best.

If you have sensitive skin or are prone to irritation, you might want to be cautious.

But, if you're still not sure, there's no harm in keeping it natural.
