Throwing your hair up in a bun is usually the easy way to get it out of the way.

But what if you want to get your locks out of your face quickly and don’t want to compromise on style? Well, celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton has a method that might become your new favourite.

The best part is you won’t have to go out and buy a bunch of products that you’ll never use again because most people will have everything required already at home.

All that’s needed to pull off a bun hack is a single elastic, some bobby pins, and a bit of hair spray. To kick things off, grab your hair in a ponytail using a standard hair elastic and stop once you have about one go-around bobbin left.

Instead of pulling all of your locks through to the end, use your thumb and index finger to create a loop of hair, leaving the ends hanging down. Then, pull on either side of the looped hair to fan it out into kind of a bow-like shape. That’s your bun section.

Next up, grab the two sections of hair that you left sticking out on either side of the ponytail and twist each one. Pull these strands up and cross them over at the top of your ponytail, securing each with a bobby pin or if you have thick hair, a few bobby pins.

We all know there’s nothing more annoying than feeling that hairstyle you worked on fall out so keep pinning until you’re happy it will survive a small earthquake.

If you want to add just a touch more glam to Chris’ already chic version of a messy bun, pull a few strands out at the front to frame your face.
