River Island has removed a novelty product from its website after a number of people branded it “sexist” and “offensive”.
The retailer took down the item, called ‘The Domestic Anti Nag Gag’, after receiving a number of complaints about it on Twitter.
A picture of the object, which is a miniature football on a piece of elastic and is intended to be placed in a woman’s mouth, is still doing the rounds online.
The brand also tweeted an apology which read: “We are sorry to hear that one of our novelty gifts has caused upset to our customers. We have now removed this item from the site”.
