The nurses had a very surprising reaction
Not everyone will love your baby name, but once it’s something you adore then that’s what matters the most. One mum was left surprised when her baby’s nurses had quite a surprising reaction to the name she chose for her.
As any parent knows, trying to pick just one name for your child can feel near impossible at the best of times.
There are just way too many options out there but you’ll eventually find the perfect name for your little one.
One mum recently opened up about the name she chose for her daughter and was pretty shocked to hear it was fading in popularity.
She told Reddit that her nurses were surprised to hear she called her little one Loretta.
“We named her Loretta and so many nurses said they had never heard the name before and that it was so pretty and unique.
“When did Loretta become a unique name? I’ve always thought it was an old-school common name, but apparently not anymore,” she continued.
“Does nobody remember Loretta Lynn? I felt like I was in a mild Twilight Zone episode,” she admitted.
People loved the unique name
The nurses may not have known the name she chose for her daughter but Reddit users praised the mum for choosing such a wonderful moniker.
One said: “I love Loretta! So many nicknames (Lo, Lori, Etta, Retta, etc.) and such old-school cool vibes for 2025. Great choice!”
“My daughter is named Loretta too! We’ve gotten a lot of compliments on her name. I work in geriatrics and everyone seems to have known one person from their past with the name. I think it was a known name at the time but not super common,” another said.
Another added: “I have a great aunt named Loretta, and I’ve always loved her name! Etta is a cute nickname, too!”
Another also praised the mum for picking the name Loretta.
“Loretta is a beautiful name. To me, the name Loretta evokes someone who is genuine, pragmatic, smart, and generous.”
The nickname Etta has sold us on this name and we may have to add it to our baby name lists.
