Well, it’s about time.
So you may or may have not known, but July 17th was International emoji day.
Yep, that’s a real thing.
Anyway, to celebrate Apple and Google announced a number of amazing new emojis coming to a phone near you.
Among the new emojis is the most important release in recent years – a sloth emoji.
I know, we’re excited too.
There will also be a head of garlic, flamingo, skunk, waffle, stick of butter, yawning face, falafel, orangutan, banjo, kite, and a one-piece swimsuit.
There’s also an amazing new update with regards to inclusivity.
“In a major update to the Holding Hands emoji typically used to represent couples and relationships, users will now be able to select any combination of skin tone, in addition to gender, to personalise the people holding hands, opening up more than 75 possible combinations,” Apple wrote in a news release.
They also said that more disability-themed emojis will be introduced.
“Following Apple’s proposal to the Unicode Consortium last year to introduce more disability-themed emoji, a new guide dog, an ear with a hearing aid, wheelchairs, a prosthetic arm and a prosthetic leg will be available in the emoji keyboard.”
“Celebrating diversity in all its many forms is integral to Apple’s values and these new options help fill a significant gap in the emoji keyboard.”
This is great news all around
